The average natural pH of the skin’s surface. Healthy skin is slightly acidic.

Egyptian sun

In Cairo, the UV index stays high for six months of the year, including three months rated very high. Outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours.

Egyptian water

Tap water in Fayoum measured slightly alkaline (average pH 7.25–7.64) and hard, at about 164 mg/L. Hard water leaves more cleanser residue on skin, while healthy skin sits near pH 4.7. Its link with eczema is still uncertain.

Under the hijab

Pressure and friction, including from clothing, can trigger breakouts in acne-prone skin. Dermatologists have published hijab-specific care advice, and we refer you to one when a breakout needs treatment.

At 0.5%, it matched 0.5% retinol on wrinkles and dark spots in a 12-week trial, with less stinging.
Can’t
One small trial, of a cream. Promising, not a guaranteed retinol replacement.
Timeline
Measured at 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Judge it at 12.

Ceramides

Does
Part of the lipid “mortar” between skin cells that slows water loss.
Can’t
Supporting your barrier is not treating eczema. That needs a dermatologist.
Timeline
Comfort can come quickly; judge barrier changes over weeks.

PDRN

In medicube serum

Does
A DNA-derived ingredient studied for skin repair, sold as serums and injectables.
Can’t
Topical PDRN is milder than injectables. Its molecules are 100 to 3,000 times larger than the ~500 Dalton size that crosses skin easily.
Timeline
We found no reliable timeline for topical PDRN, so we won’t invent one.

Vitamin C

In Arencia booster

Does
In trials, topical vitamin C smoothed skin and lightened pigmentation.
Can’t
Arencia’s “pure vitamin C” is listed at 10 ppm. The work is done by a 5% derivative, and derivatives vary.
Timeline
Long-term use may be needed for visible change.
